A Note from our Founder…for Black History Month
At the start of a significant month both professionally and personally and for the start of Black History Month, our Founder Rachel, shares some musings on what has got her here and what’s to come.
Pinch Punch Start of the Month. And what a month October is set to be. 10 years married on Friday 🙌🏾 4 years in business mid month 🙌🏾 and its Black History Month. It's definitely a time of reflection for me. I feel like I'm internally doing a Snoop Dog and thanking me for being me 😂 And for keeping being me, even when it's been hard.
As a mixed-race woman and founder of a PR agency, I’ve often found myself navigating two worlds — both personally and professionally. My background has shaped my identity, my perspective, and ultimately, the way I do business. For years, I downplayed this part of myself, thinking it wasn’t “relevant” to my entrepreneurial journey. But the more I grow, the more I realise how central it is to who I am as a business owner, as a mother, a wife, and as being whole heartedly me.
For the conversation of business for this platform, it's important to acknowledge what being me brings. It brings different perspectives, different challenges and different opportunities. Good and bad. But it wholeheartedly brings resilience and as I've got older it has also meant recognising that working on my self-worth and boundaries has to be a priority. To get anything done and thrive doing it - working on my mental strength is non-negotiable. Perhaps this shouldn't be necessary - but it is necessary - and so I do it and it has elevated me (and my business and my marriage and my happiness) in more ways than I can mention.
I can now recognise that in an industry where representation and authentic storytelling matter more than ever, my background brings a depth and empathy that reflects in the work we do. Whether I’m helping brands tell their stories or navigating the complexities of entrepreneurship, my heritage is a strength, not an afterthought. Diversity isn’t just a buzzword; it’s a reality that shapes our world and the businesses we run. And as someone who embodies this diversity, I’m proud to bring a different perspective to the table.
I'm also excited to celebrate hard this month - through rest and relaxation, fun and joy and attending uplifting industry events to celebrate Black History Month.
I am also so keen to hear from others about what you are up to and your feelings and thoughts at this time... Here's to October!
